No byline. No shoutout. And no chance that Lee Clow has any clue who I am. But, one of my all-time advertising heroes did answer 22 of my tweets on the Clios podcast. So, you could say that Lee is basically my personal mentor now—whether he knows it or not.

To celebrate TBWA\Chiat\Day’s 50th anniversary, the industry icon decided to answer 50 questions from Twitter on the Muse by Clios podcast miniseries “Lee Clow Will Only Say This Once.”

In addition to being a rabid ad nerd and a disciple of the Clowian school of creative leadership, I’m a big believer in the power of questions. So, one late night and a 50-question tweetstorm later, I think it’s safe to say that I finally made my Scripps journalism degree proud.

From the serious and the silly to the trivial and the transformative, I jumped on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ask a living legend for the kind of personal career guidance only someone with his unprecedented success and experience could offer.

My #50forLee Twitter thread turned into 22 on-air questions (a 44% hit rate), and Lee’s answers were more insightful than I could have ever dreamed. Over 8 episodes, Tim Nudd fired off question after question while I imagined myself chillin’ with Lee at a beachfront LA coffeeshop sipping on nitro cold brew and pondering the mysteries of the advertising universe for the taping of Art & Copy 2.
